HOW NAUTI CAN YOU GET?
The Swan River is still a mystery even for us who live here. Put us on a boat and spin around and we have no idea which suburb we are in.
We hope the following sample itineraries and maps will help you navigate and explore the river.
These itineraries and maps are divided into tours i.e. 2 hour (also use for Early Riser tour), 4 hour, Sunset Cruise and the 6 hour extension up the Swan Valley.
It’s great to see how far and what you can see on each tour so that you are prepared when you arrive at the jetty.
You may also go the opposite way. Ask us if you are unsure.
As our HQ is at Ascot, your hire starts and stops there. When looking at the maps, you start in the middle and go either upriver or downriver, it’s not the full length of the river.
We will go through this prior to your hire and the maps will also be in your onboard safety folder for your convenience.
Start planning that mini getaway on the Swan River and find new or hidden places.
A LITTLE NAUTI
Time: 2 Hours Hire
Distance: Ascot – Windan Bridge – Ascot
If time is of the essence and you are only wanting a short trip on the boat, the 2 hour hire will give you just enough time to have your heart beat settle into a steady rhythm. Travelling downriver along Maylands Peninsula, Optus stadium and the Perth skyline will show on the horizon. On your right hand side you will sail past Maylands Recreational hub with tennis courts, bowls, waterland, the Police academy and just after the waterski area, Maylands golf and yacht club will appear.
With Perth Skyline in sight, it’s a perfect place for an instagram story. On your left around Burswood Peninsula, soon to be a luxury residential area, you will find Belmont Racecourse. Just before Windan Bridge (the first bridge you come to) it’s time to return to base. This is your first hour up.
WHERE THE CITY MEETS THE RIVER
Time: 4 Hours Hire
Distance: Ascot – EQ – Ascot
You have booked a 4 hour hire that starts at 10.15am.
You and your crew will be ready on the jetty at 10.15am for a 15min safety induction together. At 10.30am you will set off down river towards Perth City. On your way, you will zig zag around Maylands Peninsula with a Water ski area where faster boats are playing in the river, a golf course hugging the foreshore and dinghies racing the wind at Maylands Yacht Club.
Under the first bridge (Windan) the river opens up to photo opportunities of Optus Stadium and Matagarup Bridge. On your right, Claisebrook Cove welcomes you to a whole new world with a hint of European Charm. You may stop for a take away coffee and a toilet break. If Elizabeth Quay (EQ)is your destination, then watch your time.
Out of the Cove, and under Matagarup Bridge, the Original Matta Garup, a cluster of small islands that were once made into one larger one narrows your journey under the Causeway Bridge and the entry into Perth Waters. On the Point, a hospitality venue, cantilevers over the river to your right before Riverside drive takes you all the way into EQ where the river meets the city. It’s time to return back to base when the time hits 12.30pm. At 2.30pm you will be back on the jetty in Ascot where the hire is completed.
SUNSET LOVERS
Time: 1.5 Hours Hire
Distance: Ascot – Maylands Yacht Club – Ascot
As the evening unfolds and the clock strikes 5:30pm, you embark on an incredible journey up the Swan River, away from the vibrant Perth City Skyline. Leaving the bustling city behind, you venture towards the quieter realms of the river. Along the way, you may encounter a few fellow boaties who are coming home after a day spent on the water. After a scenic 45-minute drive, passing the historical Peninsula House and sailing under Garratt Rid Bridge, you navigate around the picturesque Riverside Gardens in Bayswater and Ascot Race course.
As you make your turn, the mesmerizing golden hour casts its spell, bathing everything in a warm, ethereal glow, as you head back down to Ascot Waters. You will be safely back and moored at 7pm, before darkness arrives.
FULL NAUTI
Time: 6 Hours Hire
Distance: Ascot – Mandoon Estate – Ascot
This is your chance to find hidden gems in the far upper reaches. Sail into wine country, stop at historical places from the settlement era or just take your time to explore.
This part of the river is magical. The river is narrow with trees kissing the foreshore. Residential houses are hugging the river and people have settled down for lunch along the water. This is where Captain Stirling sailed and decided to settle at first. After Guildford Grammar, wine country opens up with vines growing near the watersedge and large gum trees stand majestically over the river. You may stop at Woodbridge Cafe for a cold beverage and a toilet break. Normally the trip up to Mandoon Estate takes 2.5 hours. That gives you an hour to explore the property and maybe grab some wine from their cellar door. If you would like to enjoy lunch at Mandoon, the 6 hours can be extended before or during your hire if no one has booked the Sunset Cruise. Please contact us for pricing and availability.
